The Story Behind the Songs
Based in the Midwest, Bobby Pope writes music shaped by ordinary moments — sitting with friends, playing guitar out back, late evenings at the piano, long drives, and a lot of time spent simply trying to figure life out.
For Bobby, songwriting has never belonged to one genre. The songs move between folk, bluegrass, blues, pop, country, and rock, depending on where the story and melody want to go. The song comes first. Melody has always been at the heart of it — writing something memorable, something honest, and hopefully something that stays with you after the music stops.
Songwriting began as something much more personal. In the early years, music became a place to express things that weren't always easy to say out loud. Instead of keeping life's experiences bottled up, Bobby could sit down with a guitar or piano and turn them into a song. Some of his most personal music grew from those moments — songs about love, loss, hope, uncertainty, and the experience of finding your way through life.
But not every song is autobiographical. Over the years, Bobby began challenging himself to write from other perspectives, imagined situations, and stories far removed from his own experience. It became another way to stretch creatively and sharpen the craft of songwriting.
The result is a catalog without borders: some songs tell his story; others tell someone else's. Some look backward, some forward, and some simply begin with a melody that takes the listener somewhere unexpected.
